Yellowstone Campgrounds
There are 12 campgrounds throughout Yellowstone National Park, most with flush toilets and some with coin operated showers and laundry services. Xanterra campgrounds include Bridge Bay Canyon, Fishing Bridge, Grant Village, and Madison. These campgrounds will accept advanced reservations. The other camping areas available are on a first come, first serve basis.
No one is allowed to camp outside the designated areas; however, there are close to 300 backcountry sites that can accommodate large groups. These areas can be reserved in advance by visiting one of the ranger stations or by writing the Backcountry Office, Box 168, Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190.
Bridge Bay is the area’s largest campground and has more than 400 sites. The full service park also has rental boats at a nearby marina, offers guided walks, or you can listen to park ranger’s lecture on the Park’s history.
Fishing Bridge RV Park is the only facility especially for recreational vehicles; however, due to bear activity, only hard sided campers are allowed. Although it is a full service park, there is no boat access. Rather, you will need to go to nearby Bridge Bay Marina.
Outside of Yellowstone, near Snake River is Flagg Ranch Village (800-443-2311) which is approximately 2 miles from the South Entrance of Yellowstone. The Ranch has a main lodge with a dining room, a bar, a convenience store and a gas station.
At the West Yellowstone entrance, just a few blocks west, is the Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins (406-464-7879). Here you will find 40 full hook-ups, 8 tent sites and 9 cabins which have 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms. Amenities provided are flush toilets, drinking water, laundry facilities, showers and public telephones.
